Men's Basketball Plays Solidly in 83-74 Win Over Alliance

Goldey-Beacom was back to its winning ways today, recording a 83-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Alliance at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Although the first half score showed a close 41-37 score, the Lightning topped Alliance in many areas, holding them to 38.5 percent and forcing seven turnovers. On the offensive end, the Lightning shot 53 percent and pulled down 16 rebounds. Junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) recorded 11 first half points on 5-of-8 shooting, freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) added eight and junior Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) seven.

After a timeout with 15:21 remaining, a tip in by Isayas Aris began a 10-3 run for Alliance to bring them to trailing by only one at 52-51. However, the Lightning went on their own 8-0 run to give them a 67-57 lead with 9:47 left. All points were notched on the foul line with no field goal attempts. Marsh netted four, while Centeno and Collins added two apiece.

With 2:21 remaining, Joel Bailey netted two free throws to bring Alliance back within 76-73. But relentless play from the Lightning kept Alliance to scoring only one more point. In the final two minutes, Goldey-Beacom outscored Alliance 7-1.

Centeno finished with a season-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting. This was his 11th double-digit game this season and fifth scoring 20 points or more.

Marsh closed with 22 points and 12 rebounds to notch his sixth straight double-double and tenth this season. Among that, he ended 14-of-17 from the free-throw line. Collins added 11 points.

Bailey led Alliance (9-13, 3-8 CACC) with 21 points, Aris and Jayden Dawson scored 14 points apiece and Tavien Kemp added 10.

GBC (7-13, 4-6) had a huge outing from its bench with 36 points and was dominant with post play, recording 40 points in the paint to Alliance's 18. Free-throw shooting was also key for the Lightning, who went 35-for-43 from the line.

Goldey-Beacom travels to Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday for a matchup against Holy Family. The game begins at 8:00 pm, which follows the women's game against the same school at 6:00 pm.
