Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Damani Thomas Goes Off for 29 Points in Men’s Basketball’s 73-61 Loss at Post

Junior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) poured in a career-best 29 points in one of his finest games to date, but Goldey-Beacom was dealt a tough 73-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Post in Waterbury, CT.

The teams played a tight opening half with neither backing down.  The Lightning's defense permitted the Eagles to shoot just 35 percent (13-of-37) from the field and 3-of-11 from three-point range in only trailing 32-26.

Thomas continued to give the Lightning a major lift, scoring 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting.  Freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) once again was an offensive dynamo, ending the period with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Goldey-Beacom remained in striking distance when Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) hit a layup with 4:34 remaining to make it a 64-58 deficit.  But Post scored the next eight points in just over three minutes for a 72-58 margin with 1:12 left.  Harrison Warnock scored four points in that time and Isaiah Holmes ended it on a layup.

The story of the game for the Lightning (6-13, 3-6 CACC) was Thomas, who shot 9-of-17 from the floor and drilled a personal-best six 3-pointers.  It was his eight double-figure showing of the season, second consecutive and sixth in the last 10 contests.

Marsh closed with 17 points and a career-best 17 rebounds for his fifth straight double-double and ninth this season.  Among that included a season-high 10 offensive rebounds.

Holmes poured in 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting, David Jasson scored 16 points and D.J. Frechette added 14 for the Eagles (11-8, 6-4).

Goldey-Beacom does not play again until Sunday, January 29, when it faces Alliance.  Game time is at 3:00 pm, following the women's 1:00 pm contest.
