Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Stays Red Hot With 82-50 Rout of Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom ran away and hid in the second quarter and strengthened its position in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division with an 82-50 triumph over division and local-rival Wilmington (DE) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

It was all Lightning in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 27-12 to the tune of shooting 10-of-15 from the field with two 3-pointers and forcing 10 turnovers.  Seniors Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) and Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) netted seven points apiece with Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan) adding six.

This gave GBC a more-than-comfortable 42-21 halftime lead en route to its 11th straight victory in the series.  Speaks had 10 points with junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) netting eight, Harrison getting seven and Izumi adding six.

Goldey-Beacom made sure of things in the third quarter, gaining a 21-14 edge on the scoreboard to open a 63-35 lead.  Harrison continued to be a force in the paint with six points and senior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) also netted six.

Harrison, one game after becoming the 11th in program history to reach 1,000 career points, ended the night with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.  Speaks had 13 points and seven rebounds, Stevens recorded 12 and 11 for her first career double-double, freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) scored 11 points and junior Zhuri Cannon (Columbia, MD) added 10.

Amber Washington scored 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting with Jade Roberts adding eight for the Wildcats (2-16, 1-7 CACC), who ended with 23 turnovers and shot 38 percent (19-of-50) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom (7-11, 4-4) holds a one-game lead over Georgian Court (3-5) for fourth place in the CACC South Division and the final berth from the division for the conference tournament.

The program before the game hosted Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.  Many of the College's employees were invited by the team to each represent one of the players, helping the program show its appreciation for everything the College does toward the student-athletes in bettering their collegiate experience.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday to visit Post.  The women's contest is at 1:00 pm and the men's game is at 3:00 pm.
