Men’s Soccer Picked to End Ninth in the CACC

8/15/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's Men's Soccer team has been picked to end ninth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, based on a vote of the league's head coaches.

A very young lineup once again looks for a boost from sophomore Patrick Short (Georgetown, DE), who last year exploded as an immediate member of the starting lineup that made him a key cog at forward.  Leading the returnees with 14 starts from last year, he ended 36th in the CACC with nine points and also tied for the team lead with four goals.

Sophomore Nick Perez (Wilmington, DE) played a massive role a season ago, continuing the lineage of solid midfielders for the Lightning.  He made 12 starts last year and seeks to once again helping make everyone around him better.

Sophomore Tumi Sekhampu (Midrand, South Africa) made the most of his 11 starts at midfield last season, giving a boost to a lineup that showed great progress with each game.  He ended the campaign 28th in the CACC with three assists, 36th with nine points and 39th with three goals.

After Goldey-Beacom did not have a season in 2020, many of the young players now have a year of play under their belt and look for a rejuvenated campaign in 2022.  Most of the Lightning's starters for a lion's share of last year's games had never competed in a match for the program before the season.

Please note beginning this season, there no longer is overtime during the regular season in college soccer.  If a game is level after 90 minutes, it ends in a tie.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season August 26 at home against Mercyhurst, beginning at 4:00 pm.
