Goldey-Beacom split a pair of games, 9-0 and 8-5, against Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader in Philadelphia, PA.
The Lightning had the upper hand, setting the tone in the first inning as senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD.) cracked a two-run homer to center field for a 2-0 lead.
Solid at-bats for Goldey-Beacom paired with a tight defensive front left Chestnut Hill no room to gain a run in the ball game as the team racked up nine runs to defeat the Griffins in the 9-0 final victory.
Senior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) had three hits, Jordan recorded two and three RBI, junior Carly Setting (Middletown, DE) had a pair of hits and freshman Karli Cahill (Peshtigo, Wisc.) notched two RBI for the Lightning.
Freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) pitched six innings in the win (8-6), striking out three for the shutout. McLane connected on a pair of hits for the Lightning and an RBI.
In game two, Goldey-Beacom continued its solid offensive attack, going up 2-0 capped by a third-inning double to left center by Jordan to score Setting.
Chestnut Hill tied and took the lead in the fourth inning after a two RBI single to right field by Kayla Rolon, scored Samantha Toro and Ariana Carreno, 3-2.
The Griffins put together four more runs to extend the lead by the sixth inning to exhaust the Lightning, 8-2.
Goldey-Beacom chipped into the lead in the seventh inning after a reach on a fielding error by the shortstop by Cahill, scored freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.), 8-3.
A reach to first on a throwing error by the pitcher by Setting scored junior Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, MD.), 8-4, followed by a sacrifice fly to center field by Henriquez, scored sophomore Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.), 8-5, but it was not enough as the Griffins sealed the game two victory.
Davis went 3-for-3 at bat. Jordan recorded a pair of hits.
Sophomore Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA.) pitched 3 2/3 innings, (5-7), striking out two for the Lightning (21-21, 8-14 CAC).
Goldey-Beacom travels to Lincoln University, PA to face Lincoln (PA.) on Wednesday in a non-conference singles game matchup starting at 5pm. Â
