Goldey-Beacom got the job done, taking a 6-1 win over non-conference opponent Washington Adventist on Friday in Jackson Complex.
Goldey-Beacom captured a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a single to center field by senior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) scored junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, N.J.).
The Lightning added two more runs in the second and fourth innings to extend the lead.
A reach on a dropped fly ball off the bat of junior Carly Setting (Middletown, Del.), scored junior Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, MD.) to make it 2-0.
The 3-0 lead was captured after a single up the middle by Setting scored sophomore Jazlee Rojas (Smyrna, Del.).
Washington Adventist pieced together a run in the sixth inning after Infinity Chacon reached first on a dropped fly ball by the third baseman scored Mia Garcia, 3-1.
The Lightning had other plans, however, responding with three runs of their own in the sixth inning on a single to the pitcher by Newsom scored junior Lexi Thomas (Westville, N.J.),4-1.
Henriquez then reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop that scored Vaillancourt and Setting int the 6-1 final victory.
Setting, Newsom, Henriquez and Vaillancourt each recorded a pair of hits.
Freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) recorded the win (7-5), giving up no earned runs while striking out three for the Lightning (19-19).Â
Game two of the doubleheader was canceled.
Goldey-Beacom has a quick turnaround as the team hosts Holy Family University on Saturday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader starting at 1pm.Â
