Softball Gains Doubleheader Sweep over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom captured a doubleheader sweep, 3-2 and 5-4, against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Jefferson University on Friday in the Jackson Complex.

In game one, Jefferson jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing off a throwing error by the shortstop to score Julia Heine and Dallas Urban.

A sixth-inning RBI double to center field by senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD.) scored junior Carly Setting (Middletown, Del.) and senior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) to tie the ball game, 2-2.

The Lightning captured a 3-2 lead off an error by the third baseman as freshman Kelly Forrest (Middletown, Del.) reached first, scoring Jordan for the final.

Setting recorded a pair of hits and freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.) added one hit. Jordan two RBI and one hit.

Freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) pitched a complete game (5-4), recording four strikeouts in the win.

Gianna DeLorenzo struck out six for the Rams.

In game two, Jefferson took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning after a single to left field by Ellie Egher, scored Heine.

The Lightning responded with Setting scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game, 1-1. A groundout to the third baseman by Lowry drove home Henriquez to take a 2-1 lead.

A two-RBI single to center field by Heine in the second inning, drove home Emily Kuberski and Cayla Kalani, 3-2.

Goldey-Beacom tied and took the lead in the third inning capped by a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt by Jordan, scoring sophomore Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.), 5-3.

The Rams added one more run in the fourth inning after a single through the right side by Sam Gomez scored Ali Murphy, 5-4, but it was not enough as the Lightning completed the sweep.

Setting connected on a pair of hits. Henriquez, Davis and Jordan each recorded an RBI.

Freshman Devon Ellixson (Mullica Hill, N.J.) threw four innings for the win (4-8), striking out one for the Lightning (18-17, 6-10 CACC).

The 18 victories so far this season for head coach Juli Greep is the most for a first-year coach in program history during the NCAA era.

Goldey-Beacom travels to Lock Haven, PA on Monday to face Lock Haven in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
