Softball Gains Split Against Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom split a pair against Bloomfield College, taking game one 6-2 and falling in game two 6-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup on Friday in Jackson Complex.

In game one, Bloomfield jumped to a 2-0 lead capped by a run in the third inning after a single to the shortstop by Adrianna Ortiz that scored Daniela Vidal.

Goldey-Beacom tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning after a deep single up the middle by freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.), scored junior Carly Setting (Middletown, Del.).

A huge sixth inning by the Lightning left the Bears with no answers, taking the lead off a single through the left side by freshman Kelly Forrest (Middletown, Del.), scoring sophomore Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, N.J.), 3-2.

The run was capped by a sacrifice fly to center field by Setting, scoring sophomore Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.) in the final 6-2 victory.

Davis recorded a pair of hits and Setting two RBI.

Freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) secured the win (4-2), pitching a complete game, striking out four for the Lightning.

In game two, Bloomfield took a 3-0 lead in the first inning capped by a single to the first baseman by Taylor Galyean, scoring Jillian Holmes.

Goldey-Beacom gained a run in the same inning after a sacrifice fly to center field by Setting, drove home junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, N.J.), 3-1.

The Bears extended the lead two more runs in the fourth inning as a ground out to the second baseman by Vidal, scored Alanna Roberts, 4-1. A single to third base by Deja Robinson, scored Sierra Albritton and Danielle Walters, 6-1.

The Lightning chipped away at the lead in the seventh inning, gaining four runs.

A two-run double to left field by Newsom, scored freshman Bri Snover (Claymont, Del.) and junior Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, MD.), 6-3.

The Lightning added two more runs on a ground out to third base by Setting, fielding error by the first baseman, to score Davis and Newsom but it was not enough as the Bears gained the final 6-5 victory.

Newsom went 3-for-3 at bat and recorded two RBI. Setting added a pair of RBI.

Senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD.) pitched three innings, striking out two (2-1). Freshman Devon Ellixson (Mullica Hill, N.J.) threw four innings in relief, striking out one for the Lightning (14-13, 2-6 CACC).
