Softball Completes Two-Game Sweep Of Lincoln (PA.)

Goldey-Beacom secured yet another pair of wins at home, 12-4 and 18-10, over non-conference opponent Lincoln (Pa.) University on Wednesday in Jackson Complex.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one after Tia Brown connected on a double to center field, scoring Irlynn Richardson.

Goldey-Beacom secured a six-run lead in the third inning after CACC Honor Roll selection junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, N.J.) hit a bunt single to score sophomore Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, N.J.), 1-1.

In the same inning, the Lightning capped their run with a triple to left field by Makin for a two run RBI to score senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD.) and sophomore Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA.), 7-1.

Lincoln cut into the lead with a single run in the fourth inning after a double to left field by Jaraé Turner, scored Mackinzee Rasheed,7-2.

The Lightning responded in the same inning with a two-run home run to left field by senior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.), scoring Newsom, 9-2.

The Lions responded with their own two-run home run to left center in the sixth inning by Rasheed, scoring Richardson, 9-4, but it was not enough as the Lightning added three more runs in the inning to exhaust the Lions in the final 12-4 victory.

Newsom recorded three hits and a pair of runs. Henriquez three RBI. Freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.) and Makin each recorded a pair of RBI.

Freshman Cat Nelson (Wilmington, Del.) recorded the win (2-0), pitching three innings, striking out three while going 2-for-2 at bat. Safin notched three strikeouts for the Lightning.

In game two, Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning after a single through left field by Brown scored Richardson.

The Lightning tied and took a three-run lead in the same inning after a bunt single by Henriquez, scored Newsom, 1-1, The run was capped by a double to center field by freshman Kelly Forrest (Middletown, Del.), scored Makin, 4-1.

Each team added a single run in the second inning to bring the score, 5-2, before the Lightning erupted in the third inning, capitalizing on fielding errors to extend the lead by 11 runs over Lincoln who seemed to have no solution to the damage, 14-3.

The Lions found new life in the fourth inning, however, with a home run to left center by Rasheed and a two-run home run by Amaya Townsend to cut the deficit, 14-6.

A fifth inning four-run pursuit from the Lions was capped by a single to second base by Simone Davis, scoring Turner, 15-10.

Goldey-Beacom completed the sweep three final runs in the inning. A deep single to left center with bases loaded by junior Carly Setting (Middletown, Del.) scored junior Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, MD.) and sophomore Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.) in the final 18-10 victory.

Davis went 3-for-3 at bat. Setting recorded a team high four RBI. Newsom and Forrest each added three RBI while Henriquez added two.

Freshman Devon Ellixson (Mullica Hill, N.J.) secured the win (1-0), striking out one while going 2-for-2 at bat, adding a pair of RBI. Freshman Abby Husser (Bethlehem, PA.) struck out three for the Lightning (13-12).

Goldey-Beacom hosts Bloomfield College on Friday in a CACC doubleheader matchup starting at 1pm.
