Goldey-Beacom gained a two-game sweep, 7-3 and 8-5, over non-conference opponent Mansfield University on senior day at Jackson Complex.
In game one, Goldey-Beacom took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a single down the right field line by freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.), scoring sophomore Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.).
Mansfield took a 2-1 lead in the second inning capped by a ground out to the second baseman by Rebecca Pizzo to score Lauren Watson. The Lightning tied the game in the third inning on a ground out to the second baseman, scoring junior Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, MD.), 2-2.
The Mountaineers took the lead once more in the fifth inning after Kayla Vonstein reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Pizzo, 3-2. But the Lightning had other plans as a three-run triple to right center by senior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) scored freshman Carly Setting (Middletown, Del.), junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, N.J.) and Davis to secure a two-run lead, 5-3.
In the following at bat, a groundout to the second baseman scored Henriquez, 6-3. One final run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by Davis, scored Vaillancourt in the final 7-3Â game one victory.
Henriquez notched three RBI with Lowry added two. Newsom connected on three hits and Vaillancourt added a pair of hits.
Senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD.) pitched a complete game, striking out seven (2-0) for the Lightning.
In game two, Mansfield took a four-run lead in the opening inning capped by Gabby Drumm scoring off a wild pitch, 4-0.
Goldey-Beacom chipped away at the lead in the second and third innings. A single up the middle by Newsom in the second inning, drove home Vaillancourt, 4-1. A third inning sacrifice bunt to the pitcher by Jordan, scored Henriquez, 4-2, followed by Lowry scoring off a wild pitch, 4-3.Â
A single through the left side by Henriquez scored Davis, tying the game 4-4 in the fourth inning. The Lightning took the lead in the same inning after a single through the left side by Jordan, scored Henriquez, 5-4.
The Mountaineers tied the game in the fifth inning after Watson doubled to right field to score Natalie Blackstone, 5-5.
Goldey-Beacom had an answer in the same inning as a double to right field by Newsom scored Vaillancourt for the 6-5 lead. One final dagger with a double straight down the left field line by Davis, scored Newsom and Setting for the final 8-5 victory.Â
Davis led with three hits. Newsom, Henriquez, Lowry and Setting each recorded two hits. A pair of RBIÂ for Newsom, Davis and Jordan.
Freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) recorded the win (3-2) throwing 6 1/3 innings, striking out a season-high nine batters for the Lightning (11-12).
Goldey-Beacom hosts Lincoln (PA.) on Wednesday in a non-conference double header starting at 2:30 pm.Â
