Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Gains a Doubleheader Split Against Bowie State

Sophomore Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.) hit a walk-off single in game two, lifting Goldey-Beacom to a 13-12 win that followed a 5-3 setback to Bowie State University in a non-conference matchup in Jackson Complex.

The Lightning pieced together an eight-run first inning capped by a fielding error by the shortstop that scored Davis and junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, N.J.), 8-0.

A big fourth inning for the Bulldogs narrowed the gap, 11-8, after Breanna Harvey singled to left field to score Shanya Gordon. Two more runs in the fifth inning inched Bowie State closer to Goldey-Beacom, 11-10.

In the seventh inning, the Bulldogs tied the game, 12-12, after Akirra Pullen singled down the left field line to score Aseyah Alexander.  But the Lightning got the job done as Davis singled down the left center to score freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.).

Davis recorded a perfect 4-for-4 at bat to go along with four RBIs.

Sophomore Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, Pa.) recorded the win (3-2) striking out three and walking one for the Lightning (8-7).

In game one, Goldey-Beacom took a 1-0 lead behind Lowry's steal of third base, drive home on a throwing error by the catcher.

Bowie State took the lead in the third inning capped by Gordon's double to right center to score Alyssa Cloutier and Brittany Brewer, 3-1. A fifth inning out at second base of Evie Buehlman scored Cloutier to make it 4-1.

Goldey-Beacom put together a pair of runs in same inning as junior Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater Park, MD.) stole third and scored on a fielding error for a 4-2 margin.  A double to left field by Carly Setting (Newark, Del.) scored Davis, 4-3.

One final run by Bowie State in the seventh inning on a double to center field from Buehler, scored Cloutier for the final 5-3 win.

Freshman Abby Husser (Bethlehem, Pa.) pitched three innings, striking out one (2-3). From the bullpen, freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) threw four innings, striking out three for the Lightning.

Goldey-Beacom begins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Monday as the team travels to Wood-Ridge, N.J. to face Felician University in a noon doubleheader matchup.
