Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Comeback Not Enough for Women’s Basketball in 76-66 Loss at Regionally Ranked Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom made a run early in the fourth quarter, but came up just short in a 76-66 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at regionally ranked Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

Down 60-46 at three-quarter time, Goldey-Beacom opened the fourth period on an 18-10 run over the first seven minutes for a 70-64 game and had Jefferson on the ropes.  Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) scored five points in that span with fellow junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) adding four for the Lightning, who shot 8-of-12 from the field.

But Jefferson, ranked seventh in the latest D2SIDA East Region Poll, eventually settled down in closing the game on a 6-2 run for the final.  Cassie Murphy hit two big free throws with 2:26 remaining to sway the momentum for a 72-64 contest.

Sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) played yet another solid contest, ending with 14 points to reach double figures for the 10th time this season and falling two points shy of her career best.  She has scored in double figures six of her last eight contests, averaging 11.4 points during that time.

Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) had 11 points and five assists, Harrison amassed 10 points and eight rebounds with junior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) getting 10 and five for the Lightning (7-14, 2-11 CACC).

Haley Meinel scored 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting, Cassie Murphy had 16 and eight rebounds with Sam Yencha getting 10 and eight for the Rams (18-5, 10-3), who shot 46 percent (32-of-69) from the field.

Jefferson at halftime jumped to a 42-33 lead by shooting 53 percent (18-of-34) from the field with four 3-pointers.  Williams scored nine points for the Lightning and Haley Meinel paced the Rams with 13 on 6-of-11 shooting.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is at Bloomfield for a 1:00 pm game.  The men's contest between the same schools follows at 3:00 pm.
