Women’s Basketball Faces 66-59 Setback to Felician U.

Goldey-Beacom faced a 66-59 setback to Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference defeat inside the Jones Center on Saturday.

The Lightning held onto a 20-19 lead at the end of the first quarter, winning the rebounding battle 13-7 and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

In the second quarter, Felician gained control on the offensive end, shooting 44 percent on (8-of-18) from the field and holding Goldey-Beacom to just 14 percent (2-of-14) from the field to gain a 36-26 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom tied the game 38-38 with a layup by junior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA.) at the 5:05 mark of the third quarter. Weikert also recorded four steals and dished three assists for the Lightning in a solid defensive attack. Goldey-Beacom then took a two-point lead at the 3:35 mark from a pair of free throws by junior Alanna Speaks (Dover, Del.). A back-and-forth battle ensued before the close of the quarter with a three-point dagger by Briana Lee, extending the lead for Felician at 48-44.

Sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) led all Lightning scorers with 13 points on 42 percent (5-of-12) and shooting 43 percent (3-of-7) from beyond the arc.

Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.) recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points on 45 percent (5-of-11) shooting and snatching 11 rebounds. Harrison moved up two spots on the all-time career points list after today's contest with 788 points, good for 14th place.  Junior teammate Sarah Round (Northampton, England) now is 16th at 776 points and Brianna Maloney (2001-04) with 782 points now is 15th. Harrison is now 20 rebounds away from tying former GBC standout Tanner Turner-Rush (2015-19) record of 511 for 10th place all time.

In quarter four, Felician maintained a 10-point lead, finding an offensive response to Goldey-Beacom attacks and further capitalizing from the free throw line converting on 79 percent (10-for-13) to seal the 66-59 victory.

Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA.) added 12 points and three assists. Speaks, Weikert and junior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, N.J.) each contributed six points for the Lightning (7-13, 2-10 CACC).

Lee led all scorers, recording a double-double with 19 points on 54 percent (7-of-13) from the field, shooting 67 percent (2-of-3) from the 3-point arc and grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds.
