Goldey-Beacom fell in a 63-47 loss to Post University on Thursday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest in the Jones Center.
The Lightning trailed by 10 points at halftime as the Eagles retained control on the defensive end, snatching a team combined 13 steals, capitalizing on Lightning turnovers for the 36-26 halftime lead.
Junior Alanna Speaks (Dover, Del.) led the all scorers with 15 points, scoring 50 percent (5-of-10) from the field, grabbing four rebounds. Sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) added eight points for the Lightning who went 37 percent (19-of-52) from the field, (7-17, 2-14 CACC).
In quarter three, Post picked up where it had left off offensively, scoring right out of the gate in the first 10 seconds with a made layup by Tai Pagan. The Eagles led by as many as 18 points to close the quarter, 50-34.
The Eagles maintained pressure in the second half, extending the lead to 53-34 with 9:07 remaining in the fourth quarter after Jaeonna Sutton drained a 3-pointer. The Lightning were held to 33 percent (5-of-15) from the field in the final quarter, as the Eagles rolled to a 63-47 victory.
Four players for the Eagles recorded double digit points as the team shot 45 percent (22-of-49) from the field. Sutton recorded 12 points shooting 62 percent (5-of-8) from the field and snatched five steals. Kyla Ramseur and Sha'Raya Haines each added 11 points with Pagan dropping 10 points for the Eagles (14-7, 8-5).
Goldey-Beacom travels to Philadelphia, PA to face Holy Family University. Game time is set for 6pm followed by the men's contest at 8pm.
