Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Storms Its Way to 84-71 Win Over Georgian Court

Junior Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) poured in a career-best 25 points and seven 3-pointers for Goldey-Beacom, which dominated the first three quarters and was on its way to an 84-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Georgian Court at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning set the early tone in a big way, scoring the game's first 15 points in just under 3 1/2 minutes.  Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) continued to show solid play in her debut campaign with a pair of 3-pointers in that time and Williams added five points.

By the time the fireworks were over the opening period, Goldey-Beacom owned a 27-15 lead by shooting 53 percent (9-of-17) from the floor with seven 3-pointers.  Ciszkowski ended the stanza with nine points and Williams added eight.

The Lions climbed to 28-21 with 6:04 left in the half, but the Lightning went on an 18-4 run to gain a 46-25 lead with 50 seconds remaining.  Williams stayed red hot by scoring six points with Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan) and fellow senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) adding four apiece.

Goldey-Beacom was not done with its run, getting a 15-6 burst in the third quarter for a 69-40 lead with 28 seconds left.  Junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) took her turn this time by scoring six points.

The Lions (2-5, 0-2 CACC) in the fourth quarter outscored the Lightning 30-15, but it was far from enough.  Savawn Hughes scored 11 points in that time with Erika Aspajo adding six.

Williams simply was on fire, besting her career highs of 16 points from January 15 against Caldwell and four 3-pointers on three occasions.  She ended shooting 8-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc over 24 minutes.

Ciszkowski netted 14 points for her third double-figure outing of the season and Harrison added 11 for her fifth.  Izumi, Stevens and senior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) added eight points apiece for GBC (3-5, 1-1).

Aspajo simply played great with 26 points, seven assists and four steals for the Lions.  Hughes ended with 19 points eight rebounds and three 3-pointers.

Goldey-Beacom is off until Sunday, when it faces Indiana (PA).  Game time at IUP is at 2:00 pm.
