Goldey-Beacom looked to get its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference slate off on the right foot, but a huge run from Holy Family in the opening half did the home side in for an 88-65 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
The Lightning showed plenty of spark early, using a 13-2 midway through the first quarter to open a 13-10 lead with 3:25 left. Senior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) canned two 3-pointers in that span, helping GBC shoot 5-of-5 from the floor.
But the next run came from Holy Family and was the decisive one, a 28-5 spurt bridging the first two quarters for a 38-18 lead with 4:08 remaining in the half. Taylor Hinkle was nearly unstoppable in netting 14 points during that time, helping the Tigers shoot 12-of-19 with three 3-pointers.
Holy Family possessed a 48-25 lead at the break by shooting 53 percent (20-of-38) from the field and limiting Goldey-Beacom to just 32 percent (8-of-25).
Hinkle ended with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, Ava Morrow scored 18 on 7-of-10 shooting, Lindsay Tretter netted 13 with Carolyn Prevost adding 11 for the Tigers (5-4, 2-0 CACC).
Senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, Weikert poured in nine, junior Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) netted eight and sophomore Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, NJ) added seven for the Lightning (2-5, 0-1).
