Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Offense in Full Gear for Women’s Basketball in 81-73 Victory Over Staten Island

Goldey-Beacom continued to see its offense put up big numbers with five players scoring in double figures for an 81-73 triumph over Staten Island at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The first quarter was a sight to be seen as the Lightning raced to a 22-6 lead, shooting 50 percent (9-of-18) from the floor and holding the Dolphins to just 22 percent (3-of-14).  CSI also committed six turnovers in the stanza.

CSI made things interesting in the third, using a 17-8 run over four minutes in forging a 51-51 tie with 3:41 left in the period.  Ashley Lambert scored nine points in that time with Jenalyse Alarcon netting four.

Goldey-Beacom then found its offensive game again to put away things, using a 16-6 run over seven minutes to open a 67-57 lead with 4:59 to go.  Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) scored five points in that span with fellow senior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) adding four.

This put the capper on a game in which Goldey-Beacom shot 54 percent (13-of-24) from the floor in the second half and nailed six 3-pointers.  Overall, the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold hit for 48 percent (27-of-56) from the floor and canned 10 three-pointers to mark the third time this season it has reached double figures.

Senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) netted 13, Weikert poured in 11 with senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) and sophomore Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) adding 10 apiece for GBC (4-7).

Alarcon scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Lambert added 14 for CSI, which shot 48 percent (28-of-59) from the floor but committed 18 turnovers.

This marked the 98th victory for Bethann Burke, already the winningest coach in Goldey-Beacom's women's basketball history.

Goldey-Beacom has a short turnaround before Sunday, when it visits Mercy.  Game time in Dobbs Ferry, NY is at 2:00 pm.  Please note cash will not be accepted by Mercy College and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
