Goldey-Beacom erupted for 44 second-half points and received solid play up and down the roster in an 83-59 victory over Cheyney at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
The first half saw Goldey-Beacom do its best to shake the visitors by shooting 62 percent (16-of-26) from the floor and forcing nine turnovers. But Cheyney shot 42 percent (10-of-24) and canned three 3-pointers in only trailing 39-30 at the break.
The second half was a different story with the Lightning taking early control. A 16-5 burst to open the half was paced by eight points from the dynamic freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) in his squad opening a 55-35 lead with 14 minutes remaining.
Goldey-Beacom left little doubt by using a 14-7 spurt midway through the half, gaining a 71-48 lead with 7:48 left. Juniors Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) and Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) netted five points apiece.
Marsh simply has been on a tear that shows no signs of stopping. He ended with 14 points and a season-high-tying 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and is averaging 21.8 points over his last five contests. Marsh this week was picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll after twice being named the league's Rookie of the Week.
Freshman Omari Banks (Middletown, DE) scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting to fall one point short of his season high, Thomas and sophomore Tyshon Judge (Merchantville, NJ) netted 12 points apiece with Collins adding 11 for the Lightning (4-6), who shot 62 percent (32-of-52) from the floor.
Jalen Boyd-Savage netted 21 points, Robert Keys scored 11 with Kian Nixon and Dajer Muldrow adding 10 apiece for the Wolves (2-8).
