Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Again Plays Solidly in 72-60 Loss to Seton Hill

The growth of Goldey-Beacom's women's basketball program again was apparent as the team showed great resilience and teamwork in a 72-60 loss to Seton Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Down 38-28 a minute into the third quarter, Goldey-Beacom quickly shook it off by embarking on a 14-4 run in forging a 42-42 tie with 4:54 left.  Senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) continued to dazzle with seven points in that span, helping the Lightning shoot 5-of-8 from the field.

But the Griffins regained control by using a 21-5 spurt bridging the last two periods for a 63-47 cushion with 5:15 remaining.  Helene Cowan netted six points in that time with Abby Mankins and Hallie Cowan adding four apiece.

Freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) again played great in netting a season-best 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting and canning four 3-pointers to match her season high for GBC (1-3).  She already is averaging 9.3 points over four games and, so far, only has averaged 16.0 minutes per contest.

Speaks, named this week to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, poured in a season-best 17 points, tied her career best with six steals and matched her season high with seven rebounds.  She now is at 121 career steals, moving into 10th place in team history.

Helene Cowan scored 16 points, Christiane Frye netted 14 and Sakeria Haralson added 10 rebounds for the Griffins (2-2), who shot 56 percent (25-of-45) from the field and overcame 33 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Millersville for a 6:00 pm contest.
