Women’s Basketball Falls, 66-58, at Southern Connecticut State

Goldey-Beacom again played a solid game throughout and saw production from many in a tough 66-58 loss at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, CT.

The Owls in the opening half gained a 38-29 lead by shooting 47 percent (15-of-32) from the field and owned a 20-11 rebounding edge.  Zoe Amalbert scored 15 points in the half on 6-of-7 shooting with Katie Williamson adding 10 points and three blocks.

The Lightning struck back in the third quarter, gaining a 17-9 edge on the scoreboard by shooting 55 percent (6-of-11) from the floor and limiting the Owls to only 24 percent (4-of-17).  Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan) scored four points with fellow senior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) and junior Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) adding three apiece for GBC, which only trailed 47-46.

Izumi, who has been a late-game spark early in the campaign, buried a jumper with 5:59 left that got GBC within 53-52.

But Southern Connecticut State took over from there, using a 10-3 run in just over three minutes to gain 63-55 lead with 2:20 to play.  Williamson scored six points in that time to help the Owls shoot 5-of-7 from the field.

Senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) continued her strong start to the campaign for Goldey-Beacom, netting 15 points that included going 8-for-10 from the foul line.  She is averaged 13.7 points over the squad's first three contests.

Izumi and Williams netted 10 points apiece with senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) adding six rebounds for the Lightning (1-2).

Williamson poured in 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting, Amalbert netted 17 with Delaney Connors adding nine, nine rebounds and six assists for the Owls (2-0).
