Men's Basketball Notches 104-96 Win Over Staten Island

Goldey-Beacom's second-half push allowed it to claim a 104-96 non-conference win over Staten Island in Staten Island, NY.

After a relatively even first half, the Lightning found themselves 48-41 down going into halftime. Junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) led the push out of halftime, canning nine points to bring the Lightning to trail 53-50 just over two minutes into the half.

Sophomore Tyshon Judge (Merchantville, NJ) netted back-to-back 3-pointers with 14 minutes left to give the Lightning a 64-59 lead. The Dolphins took the lead once more at 92-90 with 3:41 to go, but the Lightning were not phased. A game-tying layup by Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) leveled the score with 3:19 left, and a final dunk from Judge with 2:17 left gave the Lightning the final boost that they needed. The Lightning went on a final 9-6 run to seal their win.

Judge closed with 28 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 3-of-4 from 3-point range, also adding four assists.

Sophomore David Aikens (Absecon, NJ) had another impressive showing, finishing with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, and five rebounds. Marsh added 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Lightning.
