Goldey-Beacom showed spots of brilliance in their first game of the season, but it wasn't enough to break the offense of 14th-ranked Bentley, falling 113-70 in Staten Island, NY.

David Aikens (Absecon, NJ) shot 9-17 in the first half to lead the Lightning with 20 points. Unfortunately, Bentley's 17 assists on 69 percent shooting gave it a 60-37 lead at the half. Â

Bentley continued its impressive percentage in the second half with 53 percent from the floor and 86 percent from the free throw line. The Lightning shot 10-14 from the free throw line in the second half to chip away at Bentley's lead, but it was not enough.

Aikens finished with 29 points on 54 percent shooting (12-22), four rebounds and two assists in his first showing for the Lightning.

Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) added 12 points and two steals, with freshman
Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) adding seven points and four assists for the Lightning (0-1).

Zach Laput was a player who could not be stopped for the Falcons. Laput finished with a perfect 8-of-8 shooting with 2-of-2 from three-point range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. He ended with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Â
Aaron Latham netted 19 points and Brian Wright-Kinsey finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Goldey-Beacom concludes its two-day tournament in Staten Island on Saturday at 2pm against hosts College of Staten Island.
