Women's Tennis Dealt 5-2 Loss by Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom continue improved play, returning to Delcastle Tennis Center for Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play, falling short against Chestnut Hill 5-2.

Despite a 6-3 doubles win from junior Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) and sophomore Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine), the Lightning missed out on the doubles point. Freshmen Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkey) and Hannah Brandl (Neufeld, Austria) battled and took the game to a tie break before losing 6-7.

Canbaz and fellow freshman Jess Sanzo (Bristol, England) fell in their singles to make the match score 3-0 in favor of the Griffins.

Bruno gave the Lightning its first point after a 6-2, 6-4 win in No. 3 single, claiming the victory over Nele Haag. Mova recorded a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win in No. 1 singles to claim the second singles point. The Lightning trailed 3-2.

The Griffins clinched the match at No. 5 singles after a tough match by Brandl, a 5-6, 6-7 (5-7) loss. Freshamn Asli Kunduk (Izmir, Turkey) fell at No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-7 (5-7) to Claudia Rasika.

Goldey-Beacom continue Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play against Jefferson at Delcastle Tennis Center on Saturday, as part of Homecoming and Lightning Family Weekend. Matches begin at noon.
