Women’s Basketball Handed 81-65 Loss at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom made a late run to crawl back into the contest, but ended with an 81-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

Georgian Court in the opening quarter did not show any rust after being off for 15 days, racing to a 23-13 lead by shooting 65 percent (11-of-17) form the field and owning a 10-3 rebounding edge.  Erika Aspajo netted seven points in the period with Ivona Krakic adding six.

The Lightning held the Lions to just 29 percent shooting (5-of-17) in the second quarter, but the home side owned a 35-23 lead at the break.  Aspajo led the way with nine points, six assists and four steals with Krakic contributing eight points.

Goldey-Beacom looked to make a game of it in the fourth quarter, using a 13-4 run over three minutes in closing to 64-53 with 4:59 left.  Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) netted six points in that time with junior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) adding an old-fashioned three-point play.

But the Lions regained control with a 7-1 run, opening a 71-54 lead with 2:50 remaining.  Anyssa Fields and Leighanna Lister each connected on a layup in that span.

Seltzer closed with 18 points and five 3-pointers, Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) scored 14 points, fellow sophomore Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) had nine and seven rebounds, Gardner poured in nine points and junior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) added eight for the Lightning (7-10, 2-7 CACC).

Seltzer earlier this week was picked to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for a fourth time this season.

Fields ended with 17 points and 12 rebounds, Krakic notched 17 and nine, Aspajo recorded 15 points and 10 assists with Lister netting 11 points for the Lions (6-9, 3-5).
