Women’s Basketball Rolls to 74-53 Victory at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom took control early and saw three of its players score in double figures for a 74-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph at Wilmington in Newark, DE.

Goldey-Beacom in the second quarter outscored Wilmington 18-10 by forcing nine turnovers to gain a 32-22 halftime lead.  Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) netted six of her game-high 11 points in the half during that period.

The Wildcats closed to 35-32 with six minutes left in the third quarter, but the Lightning got it done on both ends of the floor in gaining a 52-36 lead with 38 seconds to go.  Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) scored six points in that 17-4 spurt in which GBC shot 7-of-10 from the floor and the defense again was on its game in forcing four turnovers.

The fourth quarter was just a formality as GBC outscored Wilmington 22-15 in limiting the home side to 30 percent shooting (6-of-20).  Seltzer netted seven points in that span with sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) adding six.

Seltzer scored 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting with four 3-pointers, Harrison netted 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and Williams added 11.  It was Harrison's first game since being named Monday to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

The Lightning again used impressive defense, forcing 26 turnovers to mark the 12th time they have induced at least 20.  They also held the Wildcats to 38 percent shooting (22-of-58), marking the ninth time this season they have not been breached for 40 percent.

All of this helped the Lightning (7-9, 2-6 CACC) to their ninth straight victory in the series and 12th consecutive at the Wildcats (1-10, 1-5).

Emily Ansah had 12 points and nine rebounds with Sabreen Muslim adding nine and eight for Wilmington.

It also marks the 93rd career victory for GBC head coach Bethann Burke, moving her within one of tying Jen Carleton (2007-13) for most in program history.

Goldey-Beacom does not play again until next Wednesday, when it visits Georgian Court.  Game time in Lakewood, NJ is at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm contest.
