Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls 86-79 to Caldwell U.; Harrison & Williams Record Season Highs

Goldey-Beacom fell, 86-79, on Saturday to Caldwell University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home contest at the Jones Center.

Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.) recorded a career-high performance this afternoon, recording 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting, grabbing seven rebounds and snatching three steals. Harrison remains 19th in team history, now with 733 career points.

The Cougars took an early 14-2 lead capped by a 3-pointer from Shanice Graves on an assist from Saundra Cleckley at the 5:46 mark. The difference was made on the defensive end as the Cougars outrebounded the Lightning 12-6, with 11 coming on the defensive end for a 20-12 lead after one quarter.

The Lightning got within two possessions of the lead at the 0:33 mark of the second quarter after a layup by freshman Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, N.J.) before Rebecca Morrison converted a pair of free throws to close the quarter (45-39).

In the third quarter, the Lightning came within one possession 47-45 at the 7:20 mark after junior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, N.J.) split a pair of free throws. But Caldwell responded with a 12-4 run to extend the lead to 12 points in the 3:07 mark, exhausting Goldey-Beacom in the continued back and forth battle (63-58). Caldwell, however, controlled the fourth quarter not allowing Goldey-Beacom a chance to take a lead, ultimately sealing an 86-79 victory.

Sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) recorded a season-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from the three-point arc along with three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, Pa.) added 11 points and dished out four assists. Gardner grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and added nine points.

The Lightning (6-9,1-6 CACC) shot a team combined 44 percent (32-of-73) from the floor and gained 29 points from turnovers.

Casey O'Shaughnessy led all scorers with 28 points, going 8-of-12 from the field, 4-of-7 from the 3-point arc and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Jessica Wagoner added 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and eight rebounds, with Graves amassing 15 points and six assists. The Cougars (9-5, 4-1) shot 56 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and converted 91 percent (19-for-21) from the free throw line.

Goldey-Beacom heads across town on Tuesday to face Wilmington (DE) University. The women tip at 6:00 pm followed by the men's contest at 8:00 pm.
