Goldey-Beacom played its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game in exactly a month on Tuesday evening, facing a 61-52 setback to Holy Family University at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
Goldey-Beacom held its largest lead of the game in the second quarter, 22-18 with 3:24 remaining, before Holy Family tied the game at 22-22 heading into halftime.
The third quarter made the difference as the Tigers were able to widen the gap by dominating the glass and shooting 46 percent (6-of-13) from the field to the Lightning's 35 percent (6-of-17).
The Lightning did not back down, forging a 9-2 run of their own to bring the score within one possession, 38-36. The Tigers did not let down, forging a 7-1 run to close out the quarter, extending their lead 45-37 to end the third.
In the final quarter, the Lightning scored the first five points to bring the lead to a single possession ball game once more, 45-42, but the Tigers responded with a 9-4 run to ultimately maintain the lead to a final 61-52 victory.
Junior Sarah Round (Northampton, England) led GBC with 14 points, shooting 38 percent (5-of-13) from the field and 44 percent (4-of-9) from the 3-point arc to go with a pair of steals. Round moved up two spots for 15th in career points at 766 and is just 10 three-pointers shy of tying Janae Weldon (2007-11) record of 174 made 3-pointers for third in program history.
Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) recorded 11 points on 31 percent (4-of-13) shooting with six rebounds and two blocks. Junior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, Pa.) led her team with nine rebounds, six steals and four assists in the effort.
The Lightning (6-7,1-4 CACC) shot a team combined 34 percent (19-of-56) from the floor.
Lindsey Tretter recorded 14 points, going 4-of-13 from the field and 4-of-10 from the 3-point arc. Taylor Cotter amassed 12 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (7-9, 2-5), who shot 32 percent (18-of-56) from the floor.
It is a quick turnaround as Goldey-Beacom travels to Jersey City, NJ on Thursday for a makeup game against Nyack College. The women tip off at 6:30 pm followed by the men's contest at 8:30 pm.
