Goldey-Beacom Picks NyEma Gay to be its New Assistant Director of Athletics

7/12/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom College's Department of Athletics is proud to announce it has selected NyEma Gay to be its new Assistant Director of Athletics.

Her primary responsibilities include taking over all compliance matters within the department and becoming the department's new contact person for the business office.  Also, as an Assistant Athletic Director, she will play a significant role in the short and long-term planning for the department.

NyEma's selection comes after Goldey-Beacom's selection as one of a handful of schools to win an NCAA Division II Strategic Alliance Matching Grant.

"We're thrilled to be adding NyEma to our already talented staff," Associate Athletic Director and soon-to-be Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. "It came through in her resume, interviews and references that hiring her would represent the addition of a great deal of versatility and eagerness to contribute in many ways.  Also, having been a Division II student-athlete and then spending time at Division I, she brings a wealth of experience from other institutions and levels which is an invaluable asset."

She enters after serving last year as the Assistant Athletic Academic Advisor at Old Dominion University.  She provided academic support for teams and student-athletes, facilitated meetings with freshmen, transfer and at-risk student-athletes, and facilitated weekly study-hall sessions for multiple programs.

NyEma also coordinated tutoring appointments, assisted with community engagement projects and monitored COVID-19 check-in procedures as part of her administering front-desk duties for the Monarchs' two athletics facilities.

She also served the Spring 2021 semester as a compliance intern for ODU.  She assisted with the transfer-evaluation and the initial-eligibility processes, monitored the recruiting process and worked with the software necessary to keep student-athlete information up to date.

Prior to ODU, NyEma also served as a compliance intern for Virginia Union University.  She managed student-athlete records via the NCAA database, coordinated financial aid and scholarship awards, assisted the department regarding NCAA rules and regulations and provided administrative duties both for Compliance and Operations within the department.

Her charitable endeavors include working with Habitat for Humanity, Feed More, Project Life, Samaritan's Feet, Black Athlete Sister Circle and the One Love Foundation.  She also was worked as a tax workflow assistant for Keiter CPA, a sales advisor for H&M and an operations team member for Target Upstream Distribution Center.

NyEma in 2017 graduated Virginia Union University with a B.S. in Entrepreneur Management before earning her M.S. in 2020 from Liberty University.
