Softball Ends Regular Season with 11-9 Triumph Over Nyack

Goldey-Beacom saw its regular-season finale turn into a crazy affair, but it was able to rally in the final two innings for an 11-9 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Nyack in Staten Island, NY.

Goldey-Beacom will be the number 12 seed for the CACC Tournament and on Wednesday will visit fifth-seeded Post, beginning at 4:00 pm in Waterbury, CT.  Because not every team completed its full regular-season schedule, a power ranking point total was used by the league to seed the teams.

Nyack looked in the driver's seat with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 7-3 lead.  Tia Celano, Jessa Johnson and Jayna Celano all had RBI singles in the frame.

But the Lightning (6-20, 6-20 CACC) stormed back with five runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-7 cushion.  Sophomore Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) scored on a wild pitch, sophomore Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, MD) and junior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, NJ) each had RBI singles and junior Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) ripped a two-run single to right field.

The Warriors (7-19, 7-15) responded with two in the last of the frame for a 9-8 margin.  Arielys Rodriguez lined an RBI single and Kaila Quick crossed home on a wild pitch.

Goldey-Beacom then scored the last three runs to put away things.  Freshman Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) and senior Jess Lusk (Victoria, BC) each had RBI singles in the sixth and senior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the final.

Quirk went a career-best 4-for-4 with Lockwood getting two hits and two RBI.  Whitman and Henriquez also had two hits for the Lightning.

Janelle Adams rapped with three hits with Jayna Celano, Erin O'Brien and Isabella Morales all getting two for the Warriors.
