Senior Student-Athletes Recognized With Virtual Senior Day Ceremony

The virtual world continues to be embraced by many and included among this group is the Goldey-Beacom College Athletics Department, which recently honored its seniors by holding a ceremony through Zoom to thank these student-athletes for their contributions.

Under normal circumstances, this ceremony is held in person and attended by many dignitaries within the College's Administration.

This year's virtual encounter was led by Associate Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit and featured a welcome from second-year President Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, who honored the College's latest group of alums. Dr. Keith's abundance of enthusiasm for Athletics has been apparent since her arrival on campus, as well as her knowledge of how things are successfully run within the college environment. The College looks forward to bigger and better things during her tenure.

Others who took time to join our celebration included Vice President for Students Affairs and Athletics Chuck Hammond, Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan and Director of Alumni Affairs Maureen Tomey. The senior gift, a knitted blanket with the name and sport, will find its way to each student-athlete in the near future.

"This group of seniors have left an indelible impact on the College for a number of reasons," Benoit said. "There are many record-holders, award-winners and phenomenal community members in the bunch. More than anything, we're proud of the young professionals they've become and we look forward to watching from a distance as they go on to accomplish great things in their personal and professional lives. Their role in the Lightning Family may have changed, but it certainly hasn't ended."

This year's senior class includes 49 student-athletes across 12 rosters. Among them are:

Three CoSIDA Academic All-District selections among two different student-athletes
A baseball career leader in seven categories
The remaining players from the 2017 CACC Men's Soccer team, which won the CACC and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament
A CACC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and first team all-region pick
A CACC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Year and second team all-region pick
A CACC Volleyball Rookie of the Year and the second in the program's history to notch 1,000 career kills
A Men's Soccer all-region selection
