Softball Drops a Pair to First-Place Georgian Court



Goldey-Beacom gave its all against first-place Georgian Court, but was dealt a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses by counts of 8-2 and 9-1 at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lions in game one got two runs in the top of the first on RBI singles from Taylor Barraza and Elisa Lopez.  Lopez then stroked a two-run single in the fifth for a 4-0 lead and Paige Eckert added an RBI groundout later in the frame for a five-run game.
 
The Lightning got two back in the fifth when Brooke Conaty (Wilmington, DE) got an RBI double and fellow freshman Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) added a run-scoring groundout.  Georgian Court got three in the sixth to close the scoring on Adriana Mungo's RBI single and Barraza's two-run single.
 
Barraza and Lopez had two hits and three RBI apiece for Georgian Court.
 
Senior Jess Lusk (Victoria, BC) struck out three over 5 1/3 innings in the circle for Goldey-Beacom.
 
Georgian Court in game two plated four runs in the top of the fourth, keyed by Alyssa Rue's two-run triple.  Malia Black added an RBI groundout in the fourth and Mungo crossed home on a wild pitch later in the frame for a 6-0 contest.
 
Goldey-Beacom got on the board in the fourth when sophomore Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) lined an RBI single to score senior Kylie Quirk (Newark, DE) for a 6-1 game.  Lopez lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth, Caitlin Hughes blasted a solo homer in the sixth and Alyssa Herrera added a sacrifice fly later that inning for the final.
 
Senior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) had two hits for the Lightning (5-20, 5-20 CACC) and now has 125 career, keeping her in 19th place in team history.
 
Hughes, Mungo, Barraza and Rue all had two hits for the Lions (32-4, 25-1).  Mikayla Gilgert (15-2) struck out three over 1 2/3 relief innings.
 
Goldey-Beacom ends its regular season Monday with a single game against Nyack.  First pitch at the College of Staten Island is at 1:00 pm.
