Game Recap: Softball |

Braydee Whitman’s Three-Run Triple Lifts Softball to Sweep of Chestnut Hill

Sophomore Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) rapped a three-run triple in the sixth inning of game two to break a tie and cap her six RBI afternoon in Goldey-Beacom's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep, 8-2 and 11-7, of Chestnut Hill at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

GBC in game one grabbed a 4-1 lead in the last of the second on a RBI single from junior Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) and a two-run double from freshman Brooke Conaty (Wilmington, DE).  Gabrielle O'Byrne had a run-scoring infield single in the third to get the Griffins within 4-2.

Senior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) lined an RBI double in the fourth to give the Lightning a 5-2 lead before the home side erupted for three more in the sixth.  Junior Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) and Lockwood each scored on errors before Whitman lifted a sacrifice fly for her second RBI of the game.

Goshorn joined Whitman and Conaty with two RBI as she and Beres also had two hits.  Goshorn now has 108 career hits, moving her into a tie with Alivia Schoff (2013-16) for 24th place in team history.

Beres (1-0) struck out five over seven innings, yielding just three hits and two unearned runs.  Her 11th career victory puts her into a tie for 14th place in team history.

After surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning of game two, GBC (2-2, 2-2 CACC) responded with five in the last of the frame.  Goshorn and freshman Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) each had RBI singles sandwiched around a run-scoring double from senior Kylie Quirk (Newark, DE).

Goshorn lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Whitman added an RBI single to make it 7-4, but the Griffins responded with three in the sixth.  O'Byrne got a run-scoring groundout and Nadine Arredondo had the key whack with a two-run single, making it 7-7.

GBC then made noise in the sixth when Lockwood and Conaty each singled before Goshorn reached on a fielder's choice.  Whitman then chased them all home with her triple that made it 10-7 and later scored on a wild pitch for the final.

Whitman, Davis and Lockwood each had two hits with Victoria, BC senior Jess Lusk (1-0) striking out two over 1 1/3 relief frames.

Arredondo, Devon Horner and Taylor Carter each had two hits apiece for the Griffins (0-8, 0-6).

Goldey-Beacom is right back at it Tuesday at Concordia (NY), beginning at 3:30 pm in Bronxville, NY.
