Goldey-Beacom fell behind in the first half and looked to make a comeback, but Jefferson was too much in a 72-54 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
The Rams opened a 39-23 halftime lead by shooting 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor with five 3-pointers and seven offensive rebounds. Erik Timko was just getting warm with 19 points in that span on 6-of-7 shooting to go with five rebounds and two 3-pointers.
The Lightning played strong in the second half, using a 17-9 run over 6 1/2 minutes to close to 60-50 with 5:38 remaining. Sophomore Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ), a four-time reigning member of the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, continued his awesome play with 12 points in that time.
But Timko was at it again. Following a two-minute scoring drought by both teams, Timko went 5-for-5 from the line with 3:37 left for a 65-50 margin that all but ended things.
Derry scored 19 points with four 3-pointers, senior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) netted 14 with Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) adding eight and 13 rebounds for the Lightning (3-5, 1-2 CACC).
Timko had a monster game with 34 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the floor and 10-for-10 from the line. Antonin Kemkeng contributed 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting with 13 rebounds for the Rams (6-2, 2-0), who shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the floor with seven 3-pointers.
Goldey-Beacom returns to action Saturday at University of the Sciences as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. Game time is at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
