Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Alexis Harrison Records Double-Double as Women's Basketball Battles in 86-71 Loss to Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom put up a fight on Tuesday, dropping one, 86-71 to Jefferson University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home game in the Jones Center.

Goldey-Beacom found itself struggling to retain possessions in the first quarter as Jefferson capitalized on turnovers to extend the lead, 26-14 to close the period.

The Rams shot a team combined 50 percent (7-of-14) from the field to the Lightning's 39 percent (7-of-18) from the field in the second quarter, as it was not enough to gain the lead, as the Rams were able to retain a 44-31 lead into the half for the Rams.

Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) recorded her first double-double of the season, draining 22 points on 10-of-11 field goals and grabbing 14 rebounds to lead her team. Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) added 14 points following her second appearance on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll last week and junior Sarah Round (Northampton, England) scored 14 points shooting 4-of-9 from the 3-point arc.

Jefferson in the third quarter was able to keep up its offensive attack on Goldey-Beacom, extending it to as much as 20 points at the 5:26 mark, shooting 50 percent (8-of-16) from the floor and holding the Lightning to 8-of-19 from the field.  Cassie Murphy netted six points, grabbed a steal and a rebound, Haley Meinel took three steals and Morgan Robinson added two free throws in that span (57-37).

The Lightning (3-5, 1-2 CACC) ended shooting 48 percent (30-of-63) from the field.

Meinel closed with a game-high 25 points on 11-of-20 shooting with four rebounds and Murphy amassed 14 and five for the Rams (7-2, 2-0), who shot 55 percent (37-of-67) from the floor, capitalizing on 34 points off turnovers.

Jefferson entered the week fifth in the D2SIDA East Region rankings.

Goldey-Beacom hits the road on Saturday as it faces University of the Sciences as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game is at 1:00 pm and the men follow at 3:00 pm.
