Women’s Basketball Displays Great Defense in Loss to Regionally Ranked University of the Sciences



Goldey-Beacom played solid defense throughout its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup with regionally ranked University of the Sciences, but was handed a 55-34 loss in Philadelphia, PA.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the first half played tight defense in holding USciences to just 25 percent shooting (4-of-16) and forcing six turnovers.  The Lightning had 13 different players get into the act during the opening half and their effort had the squad down just 23-18 at halftime.
 
The Lightning continued to step up on defense in the third quarter by allowing just 39 percent shooting (7-of-18).  But the Devils, ranked second in the East Region according to D2SIDA, began to pull away by outscoring the Lightning 18-9 in the period for a 41-27 lead.  Anna McTameny netted six points in the quarter with Jess Huber adding four.
 
USciences in the fourth quarter was limited to just 27 percent shooting (3-of-11), but got five points from Huber to put away the contest.
 
The Devils overall shot just 29 percent (16-of-56) from the field, 6-of-26 from three-point range and committed 11 turnovers.
 
Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) netted 11 points, junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) added eight and sophomore Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) hauled in six rebounds for the Lightning (3-6, 1-3 CACC).
 
McTameny poured in 15 points, Huber netted 14, Kendall Keyes scored 11, Taylor Hamm recorded 13 rebounds with Shannon May adding 10 for the Devils (7-1, 3-0).
 
Goldey-Beacom has little rest before it heads to New York City on Monday to face Staten Island.  Game time is at 5:00 pm.
