Women’s Basketball Handed 77-57 Loss at Chestnut Hill



Goldey-Beacom's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season did not go as planned in a 77-57 loss at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the opening half shot an identical 56 percent (15-of-27) as Chestnut Hill, but was down 42-34.  The Griffins canned four 3-pointers and went 8-for-8 from the line in that time with the Lightning going just 2-for-3 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) scored nine points in the half with junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) and sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) adding six apiece.

Chestnut Hill in the third quarter outscored Goldey-Beacom 24-14 to open a 66-48 lead, shooting 67 percent (8-of-12) from the floor and holding the visitors to just 31 percent (5-of-16).  Leah Miller and Emily Chmiel each netted eight points in that span with Cassie Sebold adding six.

Seltzer overall ended with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting with Harrison adding 12 on 5-of-9 shooting for the Lightning (3-4, 1-1 CACC), who shot 43 percent (23-of-53) from the field.

Miller closed with 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting with 14 rebounds and Chmiel amassed 18 and 11 for the Griffins (5-2, 2-0), who shot 51 percent (28-of-55) from the floor and overcame committing 20 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom is home next Tuesday against Jefferson as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game is at 6:00 pm and the men follow at 8:00 pm.
