Fourth-Quarter Rally Propels Women’s Basketball to 57-50 Triumph at Millersville

Goldey-Beacom in the fourth quarter rallied from 11 points down and once again had its defense on full throttle in a 57-50 victory at Millersville in Millersville, PA.

The Lightning were in a 47-36 hole with 6:05 left before their offense went to work.  A 15-1 run was the culprit in which the visitors grabbed a 51-48 lead with 3:39 remaining, keyed by sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) scoring all of her team-high nine points from the period in that time.

Williams tied the game at 48 with a 3-pointer, junior Sarah Round (Northampton, England) made a layup with 2:21 left to give GBC the lead for good and junior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) hit once from the line with 1:45 remaining for a three-point margin.  Goldey-Beacom was 5-of-8 from the field in that span.

La'shyra Williams hit a layup with 1:39 to go that brought the Marauders within 51-50.  They got the ball back following a Lightning miss, but Williams committed an offensive foul with 48 seconds remaining for a crucial turnover.

Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) was called upon during the Lightning's next possession and her massive layup with 39 seconds left widened her team's lead to 53-50.

Both teams came up empty on their next possessions and Millersville had another chance to tie.  However, Lauren Lister missed a layup, Mickey Williams got the rebound and Harrison hit twice from the line with 11 seconds to go for a 55-50 margin.

All totaled, Goldey-Beacom (6-6) outscored Millersville 25-10 in the fourth quarter by shooting 44 percent (8-of-18) from the floor and limiting the home side to 25 percent (4-of-16).  The Marauders also went 0-of-3 from 3-point range and the Lightning closed 4-for-8.

Millersville overall shot just 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the floor, marking the sixth time this season and third in the last four games one of Goldey-Beacom's opponents has failed to reach 40 percent.

Harrison, the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, closed with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting to go with eight rebounds.  She now has scored in double figures 11 of her 12 games this season and has at least eight rebounds in six of those contests.

Mickey Williams netted 12 points that is two off her season high, Round scored 11 and Gardner added a career-best 10 rebounds.  Round drilled three 3-pointers and is at 160 career, moving her into fourth place in team history.  Her 752 career points has her tied with Akilah Sewell (2009-13) for 17th place in team history.

La'shyra Williams had 10 points and seven rebounds with Lister adding 10 and six before fouling out for the Marauders (1-9).
