Women's Basketball Dominates in 90-78 Victory over Georgian Court to Open Conference Play

Goldey-Beacom dominated its home court on Wednesday, seizing a 90-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Georgian Court University in the Jones Center.

In the opening quarter, the Lions took a 23-18 lead heading into the second quarter and were able to stretch it to their largest lead of the game at the at 8:06 mark, 27-20.  This was before the Lightning battled their way back to tie it and ultimately gain the lead off a pair of free throws from Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA).

The Lightning went on their own run to close the second quarter, taking a 40-37 lead into the half after a jumper from sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia). 
 
In the third quarter, the Lightning extended the lead to 10 points with 3:37 remaining on a pair of free throws by junior Sarah Round (Northampton, England).

The Lightning once again displayed an impressive third quarter team offensive and defensive attack shooting 55 percent from the field and 8-for-12 from the free throw line. Defensively, the Lightning forced seven turnovers and drew four steals to further exhaust the Lions.

The fourth quarter stamped the 90-78 victory for the Lighting, extending their lead to as many as 17 points after jumper by Seltzer left no room for comeback. 

CACC Weekly Honor Roll selection in Seltzer has continued to lead her team, dropping 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting and cashing in a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line to go with nine rebounds. Seltzer is averaging 14.2 points per game.

Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) had a solid game once again, adding 22 points on 9-of-14 from the field, going 4-of-9 from the charity stripe and grabbing four boards. Harrison is averaging a team high 15.4 points per game.

Williams has been a consistent threat off the bench pouring in 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting and 2-of-4 from the 3-point arc for the Lightning. 
  
Anyssa Fields poured in 26 points on 11-of-20 field goals with two 3-pointers and nine rebounds for the Lions. Erika Aspajo contributed 20 points and converted 5-of-10 from the 3-point arc. Nerea Brajac added 12 points and Leighanna Lister snatched a game-high 13 rebounds. 
  
Goldey-Beacom travels to Philadelphia, PA on Saturday to face Chestnut Hill College in a conference matchup starting at 1 pm.
