Goldey-Beacom battled on the road Tuesday, falling in a 78-69 defeat to Shippensburg University in a non-conference matchup in Shippensburg, PA.
The Lightning took a 44-43 lead with three seconds remaining in the second quarter after sophomore Mickey Williams (Wamboin, Australia) capitalized of an offensive turnover, draining a 3-pointer to lift the Lightning's momentum heading into halftime.
It was a back and forth battle as the Raiders kept the game close with nine lead changes and seven times. The Lightning kept their momentum heading into the third quarter after sophomore Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) nailed a 3-pointer in the first five seconds of the third quarter.
The Raiders went on a 6-2 run with 1:46 left in the third to exhaust the Lightning, taking a 61-55 lead into the fourth quarter.
Goldey-Beacom got within 68-63 at the 4:25 mark after Seltzer capitalized on a fast break layup on an opponent's turnover. But the Lightning were unable to hold on as the Raiders extended their lead from the charity strip in the final minute.
Seltzer recorded a career and game-high 27 points on 8-of-19 shooting, going 8-of-9 from the free throw line and dishing five assists.
Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) poured in 11 points and added nine rebounds. Williams scored 11 points for the Lightning, who could not overcome shooting 35 percent (25-of-72) from the field and 7-of-28 from three-point range.
Treasure George poured in 24 points, going 7-for-11 from the field and adding six rebounds for the Raiders. Lauren Pettis recorded a double-double in getting 14 points and 12 rebounds with Taja Colbert and Destiny Jefferson contributing 11 points apiece as the Raiders shot 46 percent from the field (26-of-56).
Goldey-Beacom travels to Bowie, MD on Sunday to face Bowie State in a non-conference matchup. Game time is at 3:30 PM.
