Nazim Derry Rallies Men’s Basketball to 84-75 Win Over Bloomsburg

Sophomore Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) attained a new career high in points for a third time this season, tonight netting 31 to help Goldey-Beacom rally for an 84-75 victory over Bloomsburg at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning were in a 68-64 hole with 6 1/2 minutes left before they scored nine straight points in under two minutes for a 73-68 lead with 4:36 remaining.  Derry opened the run with a layup and sophomore Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) netted four points.

Play over the next two minutes basically was even with Justin Rodriguez making a layup with 2:47 left, bringing the Huskies within 77-73.  But the Lightning's defense took over from there, holding the visitors to just one basket the rest of the way in ending the contest on a 7-2 run.  Collins scored four points in that time.

Derry shot 12-of-21 from the floor to go with nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and three 3-pointers.  He also established new career highs in points November 14 with 24 points against Southern Connecticut State and three days later with 30 at Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Derry has been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll each of the last two weeks.

Senior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) netted 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting and Collins added 14 to go with seven rebounds for the Lightning (2-3), who shot 56 percent (15-of-27) from the field in the second half and 49 percent (32-of-66) overall.

Justin Anderson netted 25 points, Travis Elmore scored 19 with Jake Nelson getting 14 rebounds for the Huskies (0-3), who shot 44 percent (31-of-70) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom on Sunday is home against Kutztown for a 1:00 pm game.
