Goldey-Beacom shined on Saturday during the College's Legacy Night, capturing a 77-65 victory over the District of Columbia in a non-conference contest inside Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
Goldey-Beacom took a 34-33 lead heading into the locker room after draining five 3-pointers and going 14-of-28 from the field. Senior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, N.J.) netted 12 points for the Lightning to go with two rebounds and three 3-pointers.
In the second half, the Lightning (1-3) maintained the lead, extending it 44-54 on a 9-5 run with 11:11 remaining. Sophomore Mekhi Collins (Medford, Mass.) hit three big layups, one on a fastbreak, in that span and fellow Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) added a layup to the run.
The Lightning's balanced offense did the job as the team shot 55 percent on 31-of-56 attempts, 50 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent on free throws, taking down the Firebirds.
Jones led all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting and going 4-of-6 from the 3-point arc.
Collins netted 14 points and shot 6-of-9 from the floor to go with nine rebounds.
Derry continues to be a solid component to the Lightning's offense as he went 5-of-9 shooting for 12 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Junior Juran Ligonde (Boston, Mass.) added 10 points and three rebounds.
For the Firebirds, Phillips Brown Jr. had 14 points and five rebounds, Jahmir Marable-Willi recorded 12 and two with Hartnel Haye adding 11 points for the Firebirds (0-4, 0-0 ECC), who shot 46 percent (25-of-55) from the field.
Goldey-Beacom continues its four game home series Tuesday as it hosts Bloomsburg University. Game time is at 6 PM.
