Great Contributions All Over Help Volleyball to 3-2 Victory Over Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom received two double-doubles and four players getting double figures in kills in gutting its way to an exhausting and enthralling 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (15-25, 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 15-11) over Caldwell at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The fifth set featured many peaks and valleys for both teams, but a huge peak was when GBC went on an 8-3 run to open an 8-5 lead.  Junior Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) continued her incredible play with three kills, freshman Piper Nanouski (Ottawa, IL) had one and senior Courtney Bublitz (North East, MD) had a massive kill to give the Lightning a 6-5 lead.

The Cougars got four of the next five points to forge a 9-9 tie, receiving a kill from Reese Sherwood.

It eventually was 10-10 before the Lightning went on a 5-1 run to end the one hour, 55-minute match.  Nanouski had two kills in that time, freshman Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) had one and junior Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) recorded an ace.

Carroll again played solidly with 48 assists and 10 digs for her second double-double in the last three matches.  Nanouski ended with 10 kills and 19 digs for her third double-double of the season to go with three aces.

Senior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR), as she has been the whole season, again was on her game with a career-high-tying 35 digs.  She entered the match ranked third in the country both in digs and digs per set as she now stands at 942 career digs.

Roman Concepcion is attempting to become the first player in school history to reach 1,000 career digs over just two seasons.

Syrdahl continued her near flawless play with 14 kills, four blocks and a .310 hitting percentage for the Lightning (7-11, 3-5 CACC).  Shayla Boyce ended with 17 kills and three aces, Savannah Boyce had 13 kills and Bublitz notched nine digs to go with three aces and three kills in critical moments.

Sherwood had 21 kills and 18 digs, Amanda Schiltz notched 13 kills, Samantha Ashton dished 36 assists with Karin Ojeda adding 15 digs for the Cougars (2-12, 2-5).

Goldey-Beacom is on the road next Wednesday to visit Jefferson for a 6:00 pm match in East Falls.
