With Zoom calls and virtual meetings the temporary normal, Goldey-Beacom went to this format in conducting its freshmen orientation for the student-athletes comprising the Class of 2024.

Many of the freshmen were in attendance listening to programming, advice, suggestions and best wishes from the College's administration and Athletics staff.  The call was led by Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Bethann Burke and included, but was not limited to, messages from GBC President Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, Vice President for Academic Affairs Alison White, Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics Chuck Hammond, Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan and Associate Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit.

"We were delighted to see so many new student-athletes at orientation last week," White said.  "We would have preferred to have them on campus rather than having to use Zoom, but everyone's safety is a priority.  The College has a proud tradition of student-athletes who are also great scholars, and we expect that our new group will be also.  Student-athletes are learning great things on the field/court as well as in the classroom.  Skills such as leadership, teamwork, time management and discipline are just a few.  They graduate as well-rounded scholars with a great skill set and they become great ambassadors for the College."

"It is always an exciting time at the beginning of the academic year," Burke added.  "Our orientation helps set the tone for the family atmosphere we have at Goldey-Beacom.  Our students were able to meet administration, faculty and staff who they will often engage with."

The New Student-Athlete Orientation program was introduced at the College in the 2017-18 academic year, aiding in the transition of student-athletes from high school or other colleges to Goldey-Beacom.  Also discussed with the student-athletes included class schedules, academic services, campus life, nearby amenities and other important topics.

Goldey-Beacom looks forward to the resumption of Athletics looking to build on a successful 2019-20.  The College produced three CoSIDA Academic All-District selections, an Honorable Mention All-America and once again a student-athlete graduation and academic success rate exceeding the institutional and national average.

The year also saw 48 student-athletes named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll, the Golf team ending second at the CACC Championship and the Women's Tennis squad playing in the conference final for the fourth time in six years.
