Despite losing the opportunity to celebrate in-person, Goldey-Beacom's Department of Athletics still displayed its academic prowess by getting seven of its student-athletes feted with Honors Day awards.  This annual ceremony honors the elite students in each of the College's academic programs, as well as those who have displayed exceptional service to the GBC and outside communities.

The seven student-athletes received various awards based on the standout work in their majors.  They also are among the 48 student-athletes who this year were picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll, which requires a minimum 3.5 GPA and a sophomore academic standing.

"Congratulations to those of you who have earned the Academic Achievement award," Vice President of Academic Affairs Alison White said. "It tells a wonderful story about you!  It demonstrates you are disciplined, as you manage to juggle varsity sports and class work simultaneously and truly excel at both. It demonstrates you are an individual of great depth, substance, and intelligence. It demonstrates that you value and work well within a team-based framework.  All of these qualities will serve you well, not just as you pursue your career, but in life.  Congratulations!  All of us at GBC are so very proud of you!"

One of the headliners in this group is volleyball junior Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ), who last fall was picked CoSIDA Academic All-District a second straight year.  One of Athletics' top leaders and great teammates, Przywara ended the year becoming the second player in team history to reach 1,000 career kills.

Also on this list is women's tennis senior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain), who has accomplished a great deal during her four seasons.  She is a three-time member of the CACC Academic Honor Roll, twice has been picked first team all-league and is second in team history with 50 singles wins.  Hortelano Pey also helped the Lightning to three NCAA Tournament berths, including the "Sweet 16" in 2019, and two CACC titles.

"The exceptional accomplishments of our student-athletes are a testament to their hard work and the commitment of our faculty and staff," said Bethann Burke, GBC Senior Woman Administrator who handles academic affairs within athletics.  "This is one of the many reasons why Goldey-Beacom College is a special place."

Goldey-Beacom last year saw its student-athletes record a 3.14 GPA, higher than the overall average of the College.  The College also had four of its teams win an inaugural CACC Team Academic Award for having the highest team GPA in the league, tying for the most in the conference.  This included women's tennis (3.61), women's soccer (3.58), women's volleyball (3.47) and men's soccer (3.26).
