Women’s Tennis Opens Spring With 7-0 Triumph at Millersville

Goldey-Beacom's regionally ranked squad that features two regionally ranked players opened its spring season with a 7-0 victory at Millersville in Millersville, PA.

The doubles point for the ninth time this academic year went for the Lightning, ranked fifth in the East Region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Sophomores Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) and Imane Van Veen (Paris, France) recorded a 6-3 triumph over Hannah Bryan and Julie Wallace at first doubles with senior Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and freshman Sara Edebo (Gothenburg, Sweden) getting a 6-4 victory vs. Kelsey Heckert and Jasmine Morris at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Andrea Fresneda (Valencia, Spain) and senior Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) notched a 6-4 win over Victoria Hanus and Corinne Grohoski at third doubles.

Van Veen, ranked 11th in the region, got a 6-0, 6-4 win at first singles over Bryan with Edebo, ranked 13th, recording a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Wallace at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Elin Anderson (Conwy, Wales) notched a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at third singles over Heckert, senior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) recorded a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory against Hanus at No. 4 singles with sophomore Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) getting a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win at fifth singles against Morris.

Things ended with freshman Aino Klintrup (Oulu, Finland) battling down a set and through a pair of tiebreaks for a wild 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (14-12) triumph over Grohoski at sixth singles.

Goldey-Beacom plays its spring home opener Thursday against Division I Delaware State, beginning at 10:30 am at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
