Baseball Gains Doubleheader Split vs. Le Moyne

Goldey-Beacom received great overall production in game two of its doubleheader against Le Moyne for a 6-0 victory after it was dealt a 6-3 loss in the opener.

The Lightning in game two opened the scoring in the first inning when sophomore Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) clubbed a solo home run, his second long ball of the season and sixth career.  That margin grew to 3-0 in the second when Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE) lined a two-run single that plated fellow junior Bryan Bell (Chesapeake City, MD) and senior Justin Hill (Seaford, DE).

Senior Brian McCourt (Huntingtown, MD) then continued his solid play in the third, lining a two-run double for a 4-0 contest.  McCourt now has a hit in five of his last six contests and is tied for the team lead with 14 hits.

Sophomore Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) ended the scoring, crushing a solo homer in the fifth for his third career long ball and adding an RBI double in the sixth for the final.  That hit put Maxwell into the 14-hit club this season along with McCourt and Awtry.

Senior Jake Kinsell (Carmichaels, PA) pitched the first three innings, striking out four and allowing just two hits.  Maxwell and Awtry each closed with two hits.

The Dolphins (9-7) in game one plated five runs in the top of the fifth for a 6-1 contest, keyed by Andrew Roden's three-run homer.  Nicholas Jacques also had an RBI double in the frame.

Goldey-Beacom (7-11) got its scoring with Hill lining an RBI single in the first, Maxwell scoring on a throwing error in the sixth and senior Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) recording a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Hill and Maxwell closed with two hits apiece.  Freshman Luke Taylor (Souderton, PA) continues to be one of the Lightning's many bright spots, striking out four over 4 1/3 innings.

Jed Boyle got the victory, allowing just a run and two hits over three relief innings.  Roden, Nick Hansen and Nick Nevin had two hits apiece for the Dolphins.

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday opens play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference at home against Bloomfield, beginning at noon.
