Women's Basketball Rolls to a 67-54 Win Over Concordia (NY)



Goldey-Beacom took off in the first half to defeat Concordia (NY), 67-54 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in Wilmington, DE.


In the first quarter, both teams battled hard with the Lightning gaining a six-point lead. Concordia made it a four-point game by the end of the first quarter. Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) had seven points for Goldey-Beacom. 

At the start of the second quarter, Goldey-Beacom excelled with a 13-point lead in the first four minutes. Concordia continued to put up a fight to cut the gap but the Lightning increased their lead to 17 points at halftime. Sophomores Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.) both had eight points each for the Lightning. 

Goldey-Beacom held Concordia to 18 percent shooting (3-of-17) from the floor and did not allow any three-pointers in the second quarter. The Lightning shot 57.1% (8-14) from the floor and 66.7% (2-3) from the 3-point line. 

Concordia built its momentum in the third quarter, closing the gap to a four-point game. Concordia held GBC to 20% (3-15) from the field and did not allow any threes. Marigona Bacaliu had seven points and Christina Brown added six for Concordia. 

The fourth quarter was a constant battle between both teams. Goldey-Beacom increased its lead to 10 points, but Concordia continually fought to close the gap. The Lightning went on a run, increasing their lead to 15 points to take the win. 


McGrogan had 18 points and four rebounds, Harrison recorded 16 and 13 with Weikert getting 16 and six for Goldey-Beacom. 

Brown had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Sara Hopkins had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Concordia.


The Lightning are back in action on Wednesday in Philadelphia for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up against Holy Family at 5:30 pm.
