Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Tops Concordia (NY); 2005-06 Golf Team Goes into CACC Hall of Fame

Goldey-Beacom again was an offensive juggernaut and a turnover-inducing machine, gaining a huge first-half lead and rolling to an 87-60 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Concordia (NY) at the Jones Center in Wilmington (DE).

The first half told the whole story for the Lightning, who cruised to a 46-27 lead by shooting 52 percent (16-of-31) from the field with nine 3-pointers and limiting the Clippers to just 36 percent (11-of-31).  Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) poured in 15 points and fellow junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) added 10 for GBC, which forced seven turnovers in the half.

Goldey-Beacom did not let up in the second half en route to its fifth straight victory over Concordia, shooting 49 percent (18-of-37) from the field and forcing 15 turnovers.

Livingston closed with 23 points, Elliot netted 15, freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) scored 11 with sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) adding 10 and 10 rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 50 percent (34-of-68) overall and canned 12 three-pointers that are just two off a season best.

Livingston also canned three 3-pointers and now has 144 career, moving into fourth place in school history.

Goldey-Beacom also forced 22 turnovers, marking the 13th time this season it has created at least 19.  The squad also has forced at least 15 turnovers in 21 of its 22 contests.

Jesse Breeding poured in 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with seven rebounds and Jared Young added 10 points for the Clippers (4-18, 3-10 CACC), who shot 41 percent (24-of-59) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom (11-11, 8-5) now moves to a two-game lead over Georgian Court (6-7) for second place in the CACC South Division.  The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a quarterfinal game in the conference tournament.

Halftime of the game saw the 2005-06 Golf team inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame.  Already a member of the GBC Athletics Hall of Fame, the squad won the East Regional that season to become the first team in school history to capture an NCAA Tournament event.

The doubleheader with the women's team also was part of the College's "Hoop it Up" weekend in which many alums and dignitaries were back on campus.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday to visit Holy Family for a 7:30 pm contest.  The women's game between the same schools in Philadelphia begins at 5:30 pm.
