Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Notches 67-58 Win at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom fended itself from a potential second-half challenge and made it four straight victories with a 67-58 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom took a 33-27 lead into the locker room by canning four 3-pointers and going 11-for-13 from the foul line.  Junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) netted 15 points for the Lightning to go with six rebounds and three 3-pointers.

The second half was a struggle for control with the Tigers only down 56-52, thanks to Nate Conyer's 3-pointer with 5:58 left.

But the Lightning finally took over with a 7-2 burst for a 63-54 lead with 3:34 remaining.  Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) hit two big shots in that span and fellow Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) slammed the door on a 3-pointer to end the run.

Once again it was the Lightning's defense that did the job, forcing 27 turnovers to fall one short of a season high and holding the Tigers to 2-of-11 from three-point range in the second half.  It is the 14th time this season Goldey-Beacom has forced at least 19 turnovers and it has induced an average of 24.7 over its last three contests.

Goldey-Beacom (12-11, 9-5 CACC) now holds a three-game lead over Georgian Court (6-8) for second place in the CACC South Division with five games left.  The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a quarterfinal game March 3 in the CACC Tournament.

Livingston closed with 20 points and nine rebounds, moving into 10th place in school history with 1,073 career points.  He remains fourth in team annals, now with 148 career 3-pointers.

Sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Elliot netted 14 for the Lightning, who shot 41 percent (14-of-34) from the floor in the second half.

Conyer had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Eric Esposito recorded 13 and eight with Devon Moore and Branden Aughburns netting 13 points apiece for the Tigers (7-17, 4-11), who shot 45 percent (23-of-51) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom, looking to clinch a fourth straight trip to the CACC Tournament, is home Saturday against Dominican (NY) at 3:00 pm.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 1:00 pm.
