Men’s Basketball Headed Back to CACC Tournament Despite 92-79 Loss to Dominican (NY)

It was a mixed bag of news for Goldey-Beacom, which was dealt a 92-79 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Dominican (NY) in Wilmington but learned it was headed back to the conference tournament.

By virtue of Chestnut Hill's 103-96 loss to Bloomfield, Goldey-Beacom is going back to the CACC Tournament a fourth straight year.  It is the second-longest run in program history as the Lightning went six straight years from 2007-12.

Goldey-Beacom (12-12, 9-6 CACC), which had its four-game winning streak snapped, now has a 2 1/2-game lead for second place in the CACC South Division as Wilmington (7-9) moved into third.  The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a quarterfinal March 3 in the CACC Tournament.

Things got away when the Chargers netted 13 consecutive points in just over three minutes for a 77-60 lead with 7:55 left.  Jason Copman was a force in the post the entire second half and also in this run, closing with 11 points to help his side make all five shots in that span.

Copman finished with 32 points that included 24 in the second half, shot 14-of-17 from the floor overall and hauled in 15 rebounds over 31 minutes.  Tedrick Wilcox closed with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting, including 20 in the opening half.

The Chargers (19-5, 12-3) shot 73 percent (19-of-26) from the floor in the second half and 66 percent (37-of-56) overall for their seventh straight win.

Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) had 18 points and six rebounds with fellow junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) also scoring 18 points for the Lightning, who shot 47 percent (32-of-68) from the floor.  GBC did force 19 turnovers, marking the 15th time its opponents have reached that number.

Goldey-Beacom continues its four-game homestand Tuesday against Chestnut Hill.  Game time is at 8:00 pm, which follows the women's 6:00 pm contest.
